Norm Dolet’s Story: Myrtle and a Hole in the Wall

Filed under: Stories — Tags: , — all in storyteller @ 11:17 am
My name is Norm Drolet and I want to share how God has used the ALL IN Campaign to impact my life.
Over the past year of seeing our church send people to FIJI and Africa for world missions, and seeing the pictures of their work on Sunday mornings up on the screen, I too wanted to go. However, having just started a business which consumes a lot of my time, I could not be gone for long. After much arguing with God about going He showed me that we have plenty of opportunities to serve here locally.

One day in June of ‘08 I was running a errand for my wife. As I was leaving the parking lot I noticed an elderly woman (Myrtle who is 93 yrs old) pushing her walker thru the rocks just 2 feet from the road with cars zooming by. At first glance I thought that she was in a very dangerous spot, and as I turned my head to drive off God convicted me and said, “You don’t have to go to Fiji or Africa, this is where I need you!” So I stopped my truck within shouting distance of the woman and kindly asked her If I could help her to the sidewalk. She gratefully said, “That would be nice!”

For the next 20 minutes she told me how difficult it is to go shopping because there is no sidewalk from her community to the bus stop. So in the days ahead I talked to the business owner where I was, and the property mgr of her complex and found out they had a disagreement on resolving the issue of providing a suitable walkway and started threatening each other with attorneys - pushing the problem to the wayside. I also found out that the area was not considered City of Mesa and that there were no funds for public sidewalks to be put in.

Then, one Sunday while I was at church, I asked the guys who were in Fiji doing concrete work if they could help me cut an opening in a block wall as a local community outreach event so these elderly residents can safely walk to catch the bus. I didn’t find anyone that day, and I was a little discouraged, but three weeks later at church a man found me and asked, “Do you need some block work done?” (At this point I said to myself, I’ve read about Angels in the Bible, but now I’ve met one named Fred .) After hearing my story, he said,”Whatever you need, I will provide materials and labor!” At that point, I was so blessed. Isn’t it just like God to intersect people’s lives for His glory as long as we are obedient to the call?

It was about 4 weeks later when Fred and I were able to schedule a time when we could meet and install the opening. During the construction, I noticed Myrtle approaching from a distance and I asked her if she remembered me from many weeks earlier. When she realized who I was she smiled, began to cry and gave us both great big hugs. And before we knew it we were all getting choked up and teary-eyed. She wanted to thank us somehow. We told her to thank the Lord that night for all the many blessings He gives.

Filed under: Stories — Tags: — all in storyteller @ 3:37 pm

I just got done doing my finances tonight.  I can’t believe how much different my financial situation is compared to earlier this year.

Doing my finances is now something I totally look forward to.

Before:  often late on bills, paid late fees, often discouraged
Now:  early on bills consistently, not paying late fees

Shari’s Story: From Divorce to Recovery to Africa

I’m All In

I started attending SSCC while we were still meeting at the high school. My first service was for the kick off for Celebrate Recovery and God knew exactly what I needed. I was in the middle of a very painful divorce and CR was the answer for me. I found loving, support people who did not judge me. I found healing and was so glad to have found SSCC when I needed it most.

Experiences: Students

God is bringing more and more students every week to SSCC. We have more students than we have chairs, and students are sitting in the aisles and standing in the back to learn about what God want’s to do with their lives.  It’s amazing to see what God is doing with the lives and the passion of these students to go out and impact their schools and their communities and this world for Him.
